The Sanguine is the easiest temperament to spot when you are in a large crowd. The Sanguine is a social person who needs to be around people.They are always the center of attention who talk the loudest, tell the funniest jokes, and wear the brightest colors. Hippocrates identified the Sanguine as the color red, or "blood" which fits them perfectly. Sanguines bring life into the room by their very presence and have a strong need to be around people. A Sanguine is the person who has the television on along with the radio while on the computer talking on the phone. If they cannot be around people then they will do other things to create the feeling of seeing or hearing people. Unlike the Melancholy who gets stressed when they are forced to be around too many people, the Sanguine is equally stressed when they are not around large amounts of people. Inactivity can cause stress to the Sanguine because they like to live life at a fast and furious pace, and they are the most impulsive of all the temperaments. The Sanguine is best in people-communication oriented careers but do not relate will to task oriented careers.
One of the curiosities of the Sanguine is that they are prone to exaggerate . They don't see this as a lie, but they are simply expressing their zest of life. When a Sanguine comes into the counseling office, it is not usually because they are on the verge of an emotional breakdown, it is usually because they are behaving so badly that no one around them can stand it anymore. This is because the need to be around people and socializing supersedes other responsibilities.The Sanguine needs to be the center of attention to such an extent that they will do almost anything to get it. Attention is so important to the Sanguine that if they cannot get attention using good behavior, they will use bad behavior. This can include screaming, pouting, crying, or temper tantrums. Primarily, these people want approval and acceptance but have no idea how to obtain it in the right way.
